About

The mission of the Department of Military Science and Leadership is to commission the future officer leadership of the U.S. Army. The Old Dominion University Army ROTC program consists of structured study in the field of military science with the primary objective of developing leaders who will serve as commissioned officers in the U.S. Army Active and Reserve components. Students develop maturity, responsibility, and dependability while earning the Gold Bar of an Army Second Lieutenant.

The minor in Military Leadership is a high quality, interdisciplinary, multidimensional, experiential, and culturally diverse program.
Preparing students for real life leadership opportunities and challenges.
Students explore issues of leadership, citizenship, and social change within the context of an inquiry, experiential, and competency-based instructional design.

Required Credentials

As a service to applicants, the Office of International Admissions evaluates all foreign academic credentials. All documents submitted during the application process become the property of Old Dominion University and cannot be returned.

Transcripts, translations and standardized tests must be official, sealed, stamped by the institution or testing agency and sent directly to the Office of International Admissions at Old Dominion University.
Testing authorities may include the Registrar or the Principal/Controller of Examinations.
When English is not the language of instruction, academic transcripts and course descriptions are required in both English and one's native language. Certified official translations by a licensed or professional translator must accompany academic documents not written in English. Translations of official documents completed by the student will not be accepted.
A complete application and supporting credentials must be received by the stated term deadline, or admission consideration will be applied to the next available semester.

Infantry

Operate weapons and equipment in ground combat operations. Duties include operating and maintaining weapons, such as rifles, machine guns, mortars, and hand grenades; locating, constructing, and camouflaging infantry positions and equipment; evaluating terrain and recording topographical information; operating and maintaining field communications equipment; assessing need for and directing supporting fire; placing explosives and performing minesweeping activities on land; and participating in basic reconnaissance operations.

Command and Control Center Officers

Manage the operation of communications, detection, and weapons systems essential for controlling air, ground, and naval operations. Duties include managing critical communication links between air, naval, and ground forces; formulating and implementing emergency plans for natural and wartime disasters; coordinating emergency response teams and agencies; evaluating command center information and need for high-level military and government reporting; managing the operation of surveillance and detection systems; providing technical information and advice on capabilities and operational readiness; and directing operation of weapons targeting, firing, and launch computer systems.
