The Hodgson School of Music at UGA is one of the rising leaders in music schools today, boasting approximately 600 students and 65 faculty members, some of the finest facilities in the nation, and upwards of 350 public performances each year (including world-class international artists and a twice-yearly residency of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra).
The Hugh Hodgson School's Music Minor in Jazz (offered to music majors and non-music majors) permits individuals the opportunity to study the form, harmonic and melodic structure and history of jazz music. Students also enjoy numerous performance opportunities through our jazz ensembles.
The minor is an excellent way for students to develop their appreciation and skills of this art form while pursuing other areas of study. Students in other majors who have interdisciplinary interests also find the minor valuable as preparation for further studies dealing with the arts and culture.
PLEASE NOTE: all students wishing to enroll in the School of Music must complete an audition, separate application in addition to the UGA application, and other admission criteria available online.
