    Music Performance: Piano

    About

Piano majors at McGill are trained in all aspects of a professional career, with a focus on the solo repertoire requirements for undergraduate exams. You will take courses in performance, music theory and history, musicianship, professional training, and more.

The program offers many performance opportunities within and outside of the school: weekly Piano Tuesday recitals in our small hall, regular student soloist concerts in the larger halls, studio classes, public studio recitals, two annual concerto competitions, and visiting master classes.

    Entry Requirements

    Accepted international credentials

Applicants are reviewed on their high school transcript with particular emphasis on yearly averages and results in prerequisite subjects (prerequisite subjects must have been completed during the last two years of high school).

    Bologna-signatory countries

McGill welcomes qualified applicants from throughout Europe, including from schools in Bologna signatory countries. Applicants will be considered for admission into McGill degree programs of similar duration as those at comparable, research-intensive universities in Europe. Accordingly, qualified applicants to the faculties of Arts, Education, and Management at McGill, with a Bologna-compliant diploma that leads to a three-year undergraduate program in Europe, will be admissible to a three-year program at McGill. Students in Management will be required to complete additional mathematics coursework.

    Career

The Piano program is aimed to help you to pursue a career in performance. However, your courses in music theory, history, professional skills and diction will allow you to pursue many different career paths after graduation. You can even choose to pursue performance while holding other jobs related to music.

    You could become a professional:

    • Performer
    • Songwriter
    • Music theorist
    • Music journalist
    • Producer
