Nanoscience is the fabrication, characterization, and application of extremely small materials (1-100 nanometers) with new or improved properties. The Nanoscience program produces students who are ready to attend the most competitive graduate programs in nanoscience, materials, or other sciences; to join cutting-edge corporate R&D in some of the most important and profitable industries in the world, such as information technology, communications, energy, drug development, imaging, and environmental technology; and who possess the scientific knowledge and entrepreneurial preparation to create their own start-up companies. Students also receive a broad training across the physical and life sciences, and undergraduate research is a key element of the program.
