This course is for you if you are looking to develop your knowledge in nerve conduction studies and evoked potentials in clinical practice. You will explore topics such as nerve conduction studies and evoked potential measurements.
Nerve Conduction and Evoked Potentials - standalone module - Professional courses/CPD
Nerve Conduction and Evoked Potentials - standalone module - Professional courses/CPD
About
This module will introduce you to the underlying theory of carrying out nerve conduction studies, evoked potentials and your role in clinical practice. It will enhance your understanding of relevant physiology, how different assessments are used to arrive at a differential diagnosis and build critical thinking.
Following successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Describe the applied anatomy and physiology of the peripheral nervous system
- Understand the types of electrodes, and their characteristics used in electromyography and nerve conduction studies and evoked potentials
- Describe the non-pathological sources of error and non-pathological effects on nerve conduction studies
- Describe the pathological changes in nerve conduction studies, clinical presentation and nerve conduction and electromyography changes in diseases of the peripheral nerves and skeletal muscle
- Describe the potentials associated with electromyography
- How to recognise, measure and label, using the correct nomenclature, the major components of all modalities of evoked potentials used in the assessment of patients attending neurophysiology
- The causes of error encountered and the non-pathological effect in the recording of evoked potentials and their elimination
- Present clinical presentations and uses of evoked potentials
- Visual: Flash and Pattern Reversal techniques
- Understand Auditory brainstem and Auditory Cortical Evoked Potentials Understand somatosensory: Upper and Lower limb assessment
- Understand the diagnostic value and limitations of evoked potential techniques.
