About

The M.Sc. Paper Science and Technology Paper Technology and Bio-based Fiber Materials programme deepens the mechanical engineering skills acquired in the Bachelors degree programme and enhances them with chemical knowledge about the industrial production of paper. The programme caters to the students personal preferences by offering numerous electives and areas of specialisation. Therefore, we recommend that you contact Prof. Samuel Schabel (Head of chair for Paper Technology and Mechanical Process Engineering) at the beginning of the Masters programme and create an individual study plan with his assistance.

Requirements

Entry Requirements

Requirements for admission to the Masters degree programme (and thereby university enrolment) are comprised of a â€œBachelor of Scienceâ€ degree in â€œMechanical Engineering Sustainable Engineeringâ€ of the Technical University of Darmstadt or an equivalent degree. Admission to the Masters Degree programme may also depend on additional requirements. Specific degree entrance requirements may be found here and in the competences description.

English Program Requirements

You must pass the “Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang” (DSH-2) as evidence that your spoken and written command of the German language is adequate for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes for which the language of instruction is German.

Participating in the DSH at the Studienkolleg is subject to charge.

Career

After completing the study programme, the students have different career possibilities. Oftentimes, experiences the students have already collected within internships and corresponding references play an important role as they enable the students to show a specific technical profile. Possible fields of activities for pedagogues include non-formal education and formation, e.g. adult education (at community colleges), parties/associations, youth care institutions, etc. Other fields of activity can be found in personnel development, at schools within the framework of full-time schools and within vocational preparatory measures for youths. Pedagogues may also find employment in consulting (e.g. education counseling, marriage counseling, counseling centers, for example provided by administrative offices). In principle, working in education research or at a university depending on aptitude and interest is possible, as well. Information on career paths of pedagogues who graduated from the Technical University of Darmstadt is provided annually in a series of lectures called EX-PÃ„Ds im Beruf. It is important to start early in the degree programme to gain practical work experience in relevant organisations. This way students can promote themselves as competent professionals in practice and make important professional contacts. The likelihood of finding a good position is definitely heightened if the student is flexible when it comes to commuting or even moving abroad. Good English language skills are particularly important when it comes to the international job market. The Institute for General Pedagogy and Vocational Pedagogy furthermore recommends to complete a Masters degree programme subsequent to the Bachelors degree programme as this opens up more potential occupational fields.
