PATHOLOGY LABORATORY TECHNIQUES
Pathology is a word used to describe functional or structural changes in cells or tissues and means 'study of disease' in Greek. The most important way to diagnose diseases is done through examination of tissue samples or biopsy samples taken from different parts of the body. Pathologists take the responsibility of diagnosing process, technicians who work at pathology laboratories are the ones who help them during this process. For this reason, pathology laboratory technicians equipped with practical and theoretical knowledge has a very important place in this field where new technology and new diagnosis are used.
Mission :
The Pathology Laboratory Techniques Program is a pre-bachelor, two-year program that trains pathology technicians equipped with necessary knowledge and skills who can apply methods and techniques necessary evaluating cells and tissues. Students are taught to use pathology devices in our laboratories with the latest technology and the processes through which the samples go in our laboratories. The aim of the program is to train technicians who have the knowledge and skill to apply necessary operations; knowledgeable about all the processes before, during and after pathology lab examination; who knows, develops and controls pathology lab's quality control and assurance; knowledgeable about research pathology and follows up developments in healthcare sector.
Department Opportunities
Graduates of the program are given the title "Pathology Laboratoy Technician." The pathology technician performs the necessary procedures until the human and animal tissues and fluids are prepared for microscopic examination in pathology labs and uses the technology required for this.
Pathology laboratory technicians can work at private and public hospitals, private pathology and histology laboratories and forensic medical centers.
