    Overview The Pediatric Dentistry program's goal at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill is to prepare the student for a career in academic research, dental education, clinical practice, or public health. For interested students, this program can be combined with other educational programs in the social sciences, basic sciences, or allied health professions that lead to an additional master's degree, postdoctoral fellowship, or a doctoral degree.Key facts:During the first year each student completes courses in research design and statistics; a protocol for the research project is completed in conjunction with the coursework. This project develops a student’s skill set in the scientific method and scientific writing. During the second year data are collected, and during the third year the thesis is written and defended.
