What Are Physical Education and Physical Literacy?
Physical education is a school curricular subject that supports the development of the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for participating in active, healthy living. Physical education programs are an integral component of a student's total school experience.
Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engaging in physical activities for life.
In the physical education/physical literacy joint degree program, you will learn about physical education and how it contributes to students' total growth and development. You will explore fundamental movement skills, human movement science, and how to apply these subjects in school and community settings. You will gain a thorough knowledge of core exercise sciences, which you can apply to your teaching and curriculum development. You will also learn what a quality physical education program looks like.
