    About

    Discover your green thumb

In this two-year diploma program, you'll become well-grounded in everything from plant propagation to soil science and entomology. You’ll also be exposed to a variety of business courses and concepts, giving you practical skills and basic insight into running your own agricultural business. You’ll do all of this and more at Dalhousie’s beautiful Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S.

In plant science, you’ll gain more than a theoretical knowledge of plants. You’ll learn how to solve problems, get insight into diagnostics, and holistically analyze systems. You’ll see first-hand how environmental factors affect plant growth and discover how you can control and improve them. You’ll also learn how to grow a plant-dependent business and graduate knowing your education sets you apart from the rest.

First-year students begin by completing required courses to build knowledge in bio-sciences, plant production techniques and business fundamentals. You'll have the opportunity to discover and develop your interests through course and lab work. In your second year you’ll choose from a wide variety of elective courses to tailor your education to your personal interests.

Between your first and second years, you can choose to take the Plant Science Techniques (PLSC 0202) work term course. You’ll gain valuable work experience in a real-life setting while receiving course credit towards your diploma. To qualify, you successfully complete your first year of the diploma.
