    The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree integrates learning in epidemiology; biostatistics; the social, biological and environmental determinants of health; population health; global health; disease prevention and health systems management with skill-based learning in a practicum setting.

    The MPH is a two-year, non-thesis degree program; course work is completed in six academic terms.

    Minimum Academic Requirements

    The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies establishes the minimum admission requirements common to all applicants, usually a minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC).     English Language Test

    Applicants from a university outside Canada in which English is not the primary language of instruction must provide results of an English language proficiency examination as part of their application. Tests must have been taken within the last 24 months at the time of submission of your application.

    Applicants do not need to meet a specific quantitative requirement; however, the application will ask for a statement of readiness in order to successfully complete the curriculum. The quantitative competency will not be pre-assessed. A general review of coursework and/or experience will be assessed at the time of application review. It is up to the applicant to demonstrate this competency through the application package.

    The MPH degree builds the skills needed to tackle local and global health issues, implement disease prevention strategies, evaluate health promotion programs, conduct innovative research into the population health of communities, and develop the policies required to promote healthy populations and equitable health services.

    Our graduates can be found in organizations such as Vancouver Coastal Health, Cancer Care Ontario, the Public Health Agency of Canada, the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, the British Columbia Ministry of Health, the BC Centre for Disease Control, and more.

    They work as epidemiologists, research coordinators, evaluation specialists, policy and research analysts, physicians, community health nurses, health program managers, and more. Many of our graduates have gone on to complete PhDs.
