If you want to improve your English language skills before you start an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course, our pre-sessional English courses can help you.
If you already have an offer to start a degree at the University of Derby or elsewhere, this course will give you an IELTS equivalent which will allow you to progress to the University of Derby programmes.
The course will help you:
- Achieve the entry level for your degree course
- Improve your confidence before your degree course
- Settle in to Derby or elsewhere and make friends before starting your degree course
The courses now run for 12, 8 and 5 weeks depending on your English language ability.
If you pass the Pre-sessional English course at the level stated in your degree offer, you can automatically progress to your degree at the University of Derby and will have achieved a minimum English level of CEFR B2.
You must be age 17 years or older to enrol on this course.
Please note: because of the very intensive nature of these courses, late enrolments will not be permitted. You should therefore arrange to fly to the UK a couple of days before the start of your course.
Courses will only run if there is sufficient student demand.
Social life
During the academic year, you will be offered many opportunities for social activities and day trips. You can join clubs and societies at the Union of Students and enjoy the variety of films, music, drama and comedy in the vibrant city. You can also get active at the University Sports Centre.
