The Clinical Psychological Sciences Program aligns itself as a clinical science training program and is a charter member of The Academy of Psychological Clinical Science, which is a coalition of doctoral training programs that share a common goal of producing and applying scientific knowledge to the assessment, understanding, and amelioration of human problems. Membership in the Academy indicates that our program is committed to excellence in scientific training, and to using clinical science as the foundation for designing, implementing, and evaluating assessment and intervention procedures. As such, we aim to train scholars who are first and foremost excellent researchers, involved in generating new knowledge in psychology. This skill is buttressed and informed by competence in the consumption and professional application of psychology for the prevention and remediation of clinical problems. The Program is designed to give each student a broad background in psychology, and within psychology a broad background in clinical psychology. The background in general and clinical psychology is provided by didactic courses and seminars. The clinical experience is provided by participation in clinical practica and courses. Research experience is provided by participation on a research team as well as a first-year project, M.S. Thesis, Preliminary Paper/Examination, and Ph.D. dissertation.
