Public Health – Accelerate Into Master's

    About

This dual degree program in public health is the first of its kind in Canada. Furthermore, the BPH degree is the oldest in Canada. This highly desirable public health specialization places an emphasis on disease prevention, health policy, promotion and administration as well as evidence-based program analytics.

Students are granted direct entry to both the four-year Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) (delivered face-to-face) and the one-year Master of Public Health (MPH) (delivered completely online) degree programs, allowing for the completion of two degrees within five years. Furthermore, students may choose to pass on the MPH degree following the completion of the BPH degree to accommodate for changes to their career and/ or academic aspirations.

The BPH program (co-op and non co-op) focuses on the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, environmental and spiritual dimensions of health, with courses in health of Canadian society, gerontology, mental health, promotion and administration, quality improvement, epidemiology and biostatistics. The MPH program focuses on core competencies in population epidemiology, biostatistics, infection control, emergency preparedness, Indigenous health, health equity, social marketing and communications, and policy-making.

Experiential learning and research opportunities exist for the BPH program at locations such as the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex, the Interprofessional Education for Quality Improvement Program, Niagara Health hospitals and Niagara Region Public Health, among others. The MPH program offers a 32-week practicum completed either in Canada or internationally.
