Our M.A. in Reading Education: Reading Specialist track is an accelerated part-time program for professionals who hold a current NJ teaching certificate and want to expand their knowledge, skills and dispositions in teaching literacy and coaching colleagues. As a student, you will engage in tutoring and peer coaching at Rowan University's highly-regarded reading clinic. Located on the Glassboro, NJ campus, the clinic emphasizes reflective practice with colleagues and peer mentorship.

Our program is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in conjunction with the International Reading Association (ILA). Teachers in the state of New Jersey may apply to the M.A. in Reading program through the New Jersey Teacher Outreach Program (NJTOP®). For more information about NJTOP, click here.

Entry Requirements

Application fee: $65 (USD) non-refundable

College Transcript and Copy of Original Degree – If you have completed more than one degree, all academic credentials should be submitted. Additionally, if your document is not translated to English a certified English translation is required.
Standardized English language test score – a TOEFL minimum score of 70, IELTS minimum score of 6.0, PTE minimum score of 50 or Duolingo test minimum score of 120 for traditional admissions.

Professional resume/CV
Recommendations – a minimum of 2 are required for Master’s programs, and a minimum of 3 are required for Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs.
Statement of professional objectives – Provide reasons for pursuing the program applied. Describe how you will use this program to reach your career goes, and educational goals beyond the master’s level if applicable. Students should also identify personal qualities that they want the committee to see in them, such as leadership, concerns for others, talent, etc.
You can upload the required documents to your application portal once you submit your application. Additional items may be required depending on the program applied.
