    About

    The minor consists of six courses, including:

    Two intermediate language courses

    •  Port 201: Intermediate Portuguese I
    •  Port 202: Intermediate Portuguese II

                            Or

    •  Port 278: Portuguese for Heritage Speakers

     Port 279: Writing for Heritage Speakers of Portuguese

    One advanced language course

    • Port 304: Advanced Portuguese

    Three advanced content courses in Lusophone Studies

    • Port 375L: Brazilian Civilization
    • Latam 380: Brazilian Cinema
    • Port 479: Independent Study                      
    • Port 480: Studies in Luso-Brazilian Literatures

    With permission from the LAIS department, students may take up to three courses outside of the department that have substantial content about the Lusophone world to satisfy minor requirements, including courses in History, Anthropology, Political Science, Economics, Africana Studies, Labor Studies, Human Rights, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

    • An official high school record, leaving certificate and/or graduation examination results or their notarized copies. All documents in foreign languages must be translated by a certified professional. Records must be sent directly from the institution to be considered official.
    • Academic recommendation letter (from a school-based counselor and/or teacher)
    • 500-word essay
    • Test scores
