A growing number of companies transact a significant portion of their business through international channels; more and more businesses must risk going abroad to find new markets as domestic markets mature. Even those corporations conducting business strictly in the U.S. have to compete with foreign imports for foreign labor. As a result, major corporations that take advantage of international risk opportunities have a competitive edge.
UGA has designed its Risk Management and Insurance and International Business co-major to assist students in developing an in-depth understanding of the international risk management and insurance business arena. Students take courses in property and liability insurance, international business, benefits, marketing, management, finance, and others. Students must also satisfy an international immersion requirement such as a study abroad program, internship, or additional foreign languages. (Refer to the Pre-Business major for information on applying.)
Potential career positions include international risk analysts and managers, underwriters, employee benefits analysts, insurance brokers or agents, claims adjusters, loss control specialists, and others.
