    About

    Introduction

    In a nutshell

This programme is designed for actors who want to refine and advance their skills in the area of performance before the camera. You will develop your screen acting technique across a range of styles, including film, television and digital platforms.

You will learn how to be a professional and accomplished performer in studio and on location, as well as learning about voicing animation and computer video games. In addition, you will have opportunity to interact with motion-capture technology and computer-generated imagery to create exciting cutting-edge screen performances.

Uniquely, this programme offers you the opportunity to acquire the technical production skills needed to create a high-quality self-tape, short digital film and acting showreel. This will give you the ability to create your own showcase of your acting talents on digital media.

Located in our purpose-built Arts facility, New Adelphi, this programme gives you access to professional standard TV studios and equipment. It provides numerous opportunities to network with industry professionals in seminars, masterclasses, tuition and industry-aligned projects, as well as providing a graduating showcase, where agents and casting directors will be invited to watch your performances.

There will be plentiful opportunities to get involved with industry projects and apply for work experience within the media industry.

    Entry Requirements

    Requirements

    What you need to know

We are looking for committed and passionate actors, who want to develop their screen acting skills to a professional standard and explore new methods of characterisation through physical and vocal experimentation.

You will have an understanding of the media world as it relates to performance and a desire to broaden this understanding through study, research and practical industry engagement.

Acting experience is necessary, whether in the professional field or through study. This should be combined with a desire to learn more about recorded production technology and to create your own digital media content.

    Interview and audition

Suitably qualified candidates will be invited to an interview, before a decision is made about their application. When you attend for interview you must bring with you a 300-500 word piece of critical writing on an area of media or performance that interests you.

You will also be asked to prepare a 3 to 4-minute audition monologue. This should be taken from a published script and should fit your casting in the area of screen performance, taking into consideration playing age.

Your writing should aim to convey which particular area of screen acting/media is of interest to you and that you wish to develop through postgraduate study. Your audition allows you to demonstrate your ability to apply characterisation and naturalistic acting methods in performance.

    Standard entry requirements

    Standard entry requirements

A good honours degree (2.1 or above), with experience in acting and performing.

If you have a 2:2 or your degree is not aligned to acting or performance, we would want to see a portfolio / showreel or links to examples of your acting roles.

    International students

If you are an international student and not from a majority English speaking country, you will need IELTS 6.5 with no element below 5.5. We accept qualifications from all around the world. Find your country to see a full list of entry requirements.

We also accept a range of other English language qualifications. If you do not have the English language requirements, you could take our Pre-Sessional English course

    Alternative entry requirements

    Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.

Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
