    This program is no longer accepting students. 

    The Alternative Path to Secondary Certification (Borderland Consortium) provides individuals interested in becoming teachers the opportunity to teach full-time while pursuing their certification and masters degree. In this two-year professional program, students will meet certification requirements and earn a Master's in Secondary Education while they teach in middle schools and high schools that are part of the UA South Borderlands Consortium.

    Admissions Requirements
    • B.A. or B.S. degree
    • GPA of 3.0 on upper and lower division coursework toward the Bachelor's Degree (or the most recently completed 60 units)
    • Submit an online application through GradApp
    • Include a letter of intent stating why you want to be a teacher
    • Two letters of recommendation
    • A professional resume
    • Documented proof of application for Fingerprint Clearance Card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety

    International Students: Please note that this program does not meet the requirements for a student visa.

    • International applicants to Arizona Online campus, Global Direct campus, or a Global Microcampus should choose the Distance Learner (DL) visa type in their Application Profile.
    • International applicants to the Main campus must currently hold a US visa that permits incidental study. 
    • Please verify your visa eligibility with International Student Services before applying.  The application fee is non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa status is not eligible.  
    • Applicants must meet all Graduate College minimum admission requirements, including English proficiency.
    • Applicants should be prepared to submit copies of their visa documents, additional transcripts, or degree documentation if requested.
