About

As a physics teacher, you will share your knowledge and enthusiasm with secondary school pupils and promote an interest in science. Begin your training at Greenwich.

If you love physics and want to share that curiosity, our PGCE Science with Physics might be ideal for you. This course combines expert training and hands-on teaching experience with personalised support to help you become a confident and inspiring science teacher.

You’ll learn how to make physics come alive in the classroom, from demonstrating the principles of motion and energy to helping students understand the science behind the universe. You’ll also build your knowledge across other science subjects, preparing you to teach Key Stages 3 and 4 (ages 11–16).

Our experienced tutors and dedicated school mentors will help you connect theory with practice and develop your own unique teaching style. You’ll explore everything from curriculum design and assessment to inclusive and adaptive teaching, ensuring you’re ready to inspire every learner.

We also work closely with the Institute of Physics (IOP), giving you access to specialist workshops, resources and professional networks that strengthen your subject knowledge and your confidence in the classroom.

Academic entry requirements

For entry to our Master's programmes, you will need to have met the following:

Bachelors Degree with 60% or GPA 2.5/4 for UK 2:2 and GPA 3/4 for UK 2:1

For some courses, you will need to have studied relevant subjects at university to be eligible. Our admissions team will determine this once you apply.

Careers and placements

Will I have a work placement?

You will spend a minimum of 24 weeks in two secondary schools, with intensive training placements for an additional four weeks where you will focus on core elements of practice. This will be an integral part of your study and provides the context in which you can develop your professional skills, knowledge and understanding.

There will also be further opportunities to engage in school-based training in a range of specialist schools and educational contexts.

Do you provide employability services?

Our services are designed to help you achieve your potential and support your transition towards a rewarding graduate career.

The Employability and Careers Service provides support when you are preparing to apply for placements and graduate roles. It includes CV clinics, mock interviews, and employability skills workshops.

Each School also has its own Employability Officer, who works closely with the industry and will provide specific opportunities relevant to your own course.

We hold an Employability Fair which is attended by Partnership schools.
