Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program

    About

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program

The Adult/Adolescent SANE certification is a specific certification for SANE nurses trained in treating this population.

Duquesne School of Nursing Receives HRSA Grant for SANE Program

The Duquesne School of Nursing received a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Grant to expand the SANE Program. This grant provides advanced nurse education to increase the number of Registered Nurses who are trained and certified as SANEs, focusing on increasing service to rural and medically underserved areas (MUAs) and areas with a shortage of SANEs.

"The Duquesne University SANE Training program helped me to improve all aspects of my care. I feel I have a better awareness of how to meet the needs of patients."

Cynthia Clark, MSN, RN, SANE-A, program participant

    Scholarship Opportunities

As a recipient of the HRSA grant, Duquesne University School of Nursing is able to offer scholarship opportunities to nurses interested in pursuing IAFN SANE certification.

    Pathways to SANE Certification

To achieve Adult/Adolescent SANE certification through The International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), the steps found on this helpful checklist must be completed before sitting for the IAFN certification exam.

The first step is the didactic course, which is approved by IAFN and meets the IAFN SANE Education Guidelines. This course is included in the SANE Grant Program, but it may also be taken alone or as part of a curriculum in some Duquesne educational programs that are part of the School of Nursing (for those who are not interested in pursuing IAFN Adult/Adolescent SANE certification). Please note this when applying, as there are various entry points and ways to enroll into the program to meet your needs.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Complete Your Application

All prospective graduate students will be required to submit official transcripts from all colleges attended. Most programs require letters of recommendation and a personal statement. GMAT and LSAT scores are required for the schools of Business and Law, respectively. GRE scores are required for most doctoral programs and some master's programs. Other requirements could include a writing sample, resume, audition or interview.

    International Students

If your undergraduate and/or graduate degrees are from an institution located outside of the United States, you must use a transcript credential evaluation service to obtain a course-by-course report. The official reports must be sent directly to Duquesne University from the organization you order through and will qualify as official transcripts. Please review our Transcript Credential Evaluation Instructions.

    Application Deadlines

Application deadlines vary by program. Many programs allow students to apply for the fall or spring semester. Some programs also allow for a summer start term.

    Credit transfers

Generally, an academic department may accept credits from a regionally-accredited university that correspond to the Duquesne curriculum and in which you have earned at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
