In a nutshell
Music is one of the most important signals in acoustics and audio. Psychoacoustics and Musical Acoustics is about how musical sounds are made, how they can be modelled and synthesised, and also how listeners respond to them.
This single module is drawn from our MSc/PgDip Acoustics programme. It is offered standalone to cater for the needs of those who only require training in one specialist area, e.g., for CPD purposes in relevant industries. Please search for “single module” to find the other modules that are available.
You will:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of how ear physiology underpins perceived pitch and loudness, and develop a systematic understanding of how sound is organised in the brain considering both bottom-up and top-down processing
- Obtain a comprehensive understanding of musical sound generation, analysis, and modelling techniques, and apply these techniques numerically to synthesise, process and analyse musical sounds
- Critically evaluate current research on musical acoustics and on human response to sound
