    About

    Social Studies and Science is studied as a teaching subject in the Special Needs Education degree programme (MEd). In the Masters degree programme in Special Needs Education for Schools, the subject of Social Studies and Science encompasses the specialist perspectives of Social Studies and Science (natural, social and historical perspectives). In this connection, there is a close cooperation with the relevant teaching methodologies. At the end of the degree programme, students learn how to plan, implement and reflect on lessons in Social Studies and Science. Examples of such activities include project days at primary schools, where standalone lessons are tested and reflected on.     Students in this degree programme are expected to demonstrate an interest in special needs education action contexts. They should also be keen to work for and with people with disabilities and in problematic life situations. Key competencies such as cooperative and communicative skills, the willingness to work in a team and to reflect on their own work experience play a central role.

    An undergraduate degree in a related field of study, such as

    • Social Studies and Science as subject in the Bachelor's degree programme in Special Needs Education (Bachelor of Arts)

    For master's degree programmes with unrestricted admission, all applicants who fulfil the admission requirements will be admitted a university place. The exact admission requirements can be found in the admission regulations:

    Graduates of this degree programme are entitled to embark on the preparatory phase of teacher training at a special school and/or integrative/inclusive school. In addition, graduates may also embark on an academic career, e.g. by pursuing a doctorate.

    Former students work at schools and colleges, in continuing education and training. Apart from working in schools, Job opportunities can be in the area of special education work in early intervention, counseling, as well as disability, integration and family support.

    How to Apply

    You can use our online application portal to enrol any time between 1 June and 30 September. To be able to do this, you will need a qualification for admission to higher education. At the end of the online application, you will automatically be forwarded to a cover letter (the so-called application for enrollment). Sign this application for enrollment (handwritten or digital) and put it together with the required documents into one PDF document, which you can then upload using the upload link provided. The required documents include your qualification for admission to higher education (e.g. Abitur) and any other supporting documents such as practical training certificates or evidence of language proficiency. We also need proof of your health insurance and evidence that you have paid the semester fee. At the end of the online application, all required documents are listed and must be uploaded as a scan of the original documents by September 30th, 11:59 p.m. Please do not forget to upload your photo for the LeibnizCard . You can find information on this in the application for enrollment at the end of the online application. In September, you will receive your enrolment documents, an invitation to the welcome event for new students and information about any preparatory courses that may be offered. Please note that some degree programmes offer preparatory courses well before term starts.
