    About

    The University of Arizona offers a graduate-level program leading to a specialization in teaching children who are visually impaired: TVI, or Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments. Courses are available through hybrid delivery, allowing distance students to complete the program remotely.

    Nationally recognized for excellence, this program prepares individuals to provide services in this challenging and rewarding profession. Our graduates are successfully employed in school districts, special schools, and agencies in Arizona as well as in other states across the country. Financial assistance is often available to students enrolled in this program.

    Admissions Requirements
    1. Bachelor's Degree: must be posted by the time student enters program
    2. GPA: 3.0 overall in baccalaureate coursework
    3. Documentation of 45 contact hours with children with special needs in a public school classroom (optional).
    4. A minimum of three professional letters of recommendation.
    5. Ability to qualify for an Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card to allow work with minors in public school environments.
    6. Submission of a graduate application and payment of a graduate application fee.
    7. Faculty interview

     Minimum IELTS: Composite score of 7 (no subject area below a 6)

    Funding is available through multiple sources to make it easy to get your degree.

    Project PIVIT, Preparation of Individuals with Visual Impairments in Transition through an Interdisciplinary Program Model, is a federally funded loan forgiveness grant (H325K190035) program, offering full tuition scholarships to help to improve the coordination of recruitment efforts in Arizona and increase highly qualified teachers who have up-to-date knowledge about transitional services for students with visual impairments.  Please contact us for more information.

    Arizona Teacher Academy a major funding initiative by the Arizona Legislature, the Office of the Governor, and the state's public universities, to bring more qualified K-12 teachers into Arizona's classrooms by providing teachers with full-tuition scholarship.     • International applicants to Arizona Online campus, Global Direct campus, or a Global Microcampus should choose the Distance Learner (DL) visa type in their Application Profile.
    • International applicants to the Main campus must currently hold a US visa that permits incidental study. 
    • Please verify your visa eligibility with International Student Services before applying.  The application fee is non-refundable and will not be refunded if your visa status is not eligible.  
    • Applicants must meet all Graduate College minimum admission requirements, including English proficiency.
    • Applicants should be prepared to submit copies of their visa documents, additional transcripts, or degree documentation if requested.
