    About

    The human body is often pushed to its limits in pursuit of sporting excellence. Unfortunately, injury can be a unwanted consequence of this. You’ll learn how to keep athletes in top condition and how to help injured athletes through rehabilitation, by planning and implementing a comprehensive programme. Imagine the feeling when you help someone return to peak fitness and competitive sport.

    Our sports therapy degree is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists, which means you’ll be working to the highest professional standards. Plus, when you graduate, you’ll be eligible for membership of The Society of Sports Therapists which carries professional malpractice & public liability insurance .

    The Department of Sport and Physical Activity has excellent multipurpose facilities, including specialist laboratories, dedicated sports therapy clinical areas and bespoke rehabilitation and musculoskeletal suites. We also have football, rugby and hockey pitches, tennis courts, athletics track and field, a swimming pool and a fitness suite. All of which you’ll use as part of your study on our sports therapy degree.

    Entry Requirements

    Typical offer 128 UCAS Tariff points, preferably to include Physical Education or a Science subject.

    This course is approved by the Society of Sports Therapists. When offers of places are made, consideration will be taken of the Standards of Practice and Proficiency of the Society with regards to your personal fitness and capability to practice.

    If you accept a formal offer from Edge Hill University you will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure indicating that you meet the mandatory criteria of ‘Clearance to Work with Children and/or Vulnerable Adults’. Further information will be sent to you after you have firmly accepted an offer.

    Qualification Requirement A Level ABB. UCAS Tariff points 128 points. BTEC Extended Diploma (or combination of BTEC QCF qualifications) Distinction, Distinction, Merit (DDM). T Level Overall grade of Distinction. International Baccalaureate (IB) We are happy to accept IB qualifications which achieve the required number of UCAS Tariff points. Subject-specific requirements at Higher Level (HL) Grade 5 may apply. Access to Higher Education Diploma 45 credits at Level 3, for example 30 credits at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit. The required total can be attained from various credit combinations.

    English Program Requirements

    International students require IELTS 6.0, with a score no lower than 5.5 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.

    If your current level of English is half a band, one band, or one-and-a-half bands lower, either overall or in one or two elements, you may want to consider our Pre-Sessional English course.

    Fair Entry Criteria

    Our new Fair Entry Criteria is a Contextual Admissions Policy that takes an applicant’s personal and educational background into account.     Your future career

    By the time you finish your degree, you’ll have specific skills and knowledge directly related to sports therapy. You’ll also have a range of transferable skills that will equip you for a graduate role or further study.

    Our graduates go on to have exciting careers in sports therapy, whether they are self-employed or working within a club, clinic or educational setting. Some go into related fields such as wellness and health, chiropractic or physiotherapy. Here are just some of their job roles:

    • working for professional and semi-professional sports teams
    • sports therapist in multidisciplinary clinic team
    • women’s sport therapist
    • strength and conditioning coach

    Other students continue on to postgraduate study, such as our MSc Sport, Physical Activity and Mental Health. Or they train to become teachers with a PGCE in primary, secondary in physical education, or within further education, for example.
