About

Overview The Study of Religion program of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) introduces students to several religious traditions and thus to an appreciation of the very nucleus of civilization in various periods of history and various parts of the world, as well as to an understanding of fundamental human orientations. The program also provides opportunity to study one or more particular religious traditions in greater depth. Cohesion and integrity in the program are furthered by courses dealing with philosophical problems in religion, sociological analysis, and general anthropological theories and reflections.Learning OutcomesThe Study of Religion major has the following learning outcomes:Demonstrated ability to plan a major project that concludes with writing a cogent and convincing documentApplication of knowledge of a wide-ranging bibliography and of methods of research to thoroughly prepare for seriously engaging an interviewee or for writing the prospectus describing the major projectDevelopment of skills essential to taking oral histories or doing field research in Los Angeles’ multicultural populationAbility to organize research data into a coherent and persuasive form for oral presentation to peersDemonstrated empathy as a critic of a wide array of religious traditions, institutions, and practices I want to find another Bachelor Course
