    Supervision for Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners

    About

The award Supervision for Psychological Well-being Practitioners (PWPs) has been developed in response to recommendations from the IAPT programme with the target audience being those practitioners who supervise practitioners in the delivery of 'Low Intensity [CBT] Interventions' within Primary Mental Health Care Settings. The award facilitates the development of practitioners in preparation for the role as supervisors of PWPs. Clinical supervision and Clinical Case Management supervision are the guiding principles of IAPT supervision. The award will prepare you for developing your knowledge and skill in these areas, and provides a link between theory and clinical practice.

The 14-week courses starts with an initial two-day teaching block, followed by an additional four teaching days over the 14-week period.

    Funding 2022/23
Funded places may be available. You will be notified if you are eligible for a funded place within your organisation once you have applied.

The Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme represents a major expansion in the provision of psychological therapies. Supervision is a key activity which will determine the success of the IAPT programme.

At the commencement of the award you will explore your own experiences of supervision using a variety of self-assessment strategies; you then go on to study clinical case management and supervision, educational principles and theories of learning, models of supervision and the supervisory relationship and alliance.

The content of the award will be underpinned by clinical governance and you will be encouraged to consider specific ethical issues and dilemmas which may arise throughout your practice as a supervisor. The process of supervision will be explored and you will be guided towards effective structuring and delivery.

As group supervision is an important facet of PWP supervision this will also be explored and studied. As a supervisor of trainee PWP's you will become familiar with strategies to enable you to assess the competence of the trainees.

A range of strategies support learning, including lectures, role-play activities, video demonstrations and self-directed learning. You are encouraged to share experiences and learning with other students. Scenario-based seminars develop your decision making and problem-solving skills.

Your learning will be enhanced through e-learning environment which will greatly enhance your knowledge and skills.

    There are two assessments:

    > a 2,500 word critical commentary on the process of Clinical and Clinical Case Management Supervision

    > a portfolio of essential evidence demonstrating achievement of generic and supervisory specific competencies. The written commentary of achievement of competence is assessed by your own supervisor.

When not at university you are required to spend a minimum of 15 hours facilitating supervision of PWPs, which form part of your portfolio of evidence.

Both assessments are submitted in week 14 of the course
