    Overview Designed to be completed in two years of full-time study, this Teaching Dance, Grades K–12, Initial Certification from New York University enables you to learn:How to create and implement pre-K–12 sequential dance programs in public and independent schoolsHow to plan, implement, and assess dance education in diverse urban settingsResearch in dance education, technique and pedagogy, teaching creative movement, and theory and philosophy of dance educationGraduates are research-informed and proficient teachers with a complete understanding of urban school systems and the role of dance education within them.Hands-On ExperienceDuring your first year in the program, you will complete fieldwork observing dance instruction in New York City schools. During your second year, you will complete two student teaching placements in New York City schools, working with cooperating teachers who are experienced, certified dance educators.     Upon completion of the Teaching Dance, Grades K–12, Initial Certification from New York University, you’ll be eligible for New York State initial certification as a teacher of dance, all grades (pre-K–12), with reciprocity in numerous other states.
