    Learn how recreation and leisure experiences can be used to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, illnesses and other limitations. Therapeutic Recreation specialists are allied health professionals who design and implement purposeful and meaningful recreation and leisure programs and interventions for holistic health and wellbeing.

    Dalhousie’s Therapeutic Recreation program is the first to be accredited in Canada by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and graduates are prepared to write the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation exam to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

    Minimum admission requirements

    To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:

    1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
    2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
    3. Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).

    Admission to many Dalhousie programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

    • Minimum average of 70%

    • Four additional academic subjects.

    Minimum score: Overall: 6.5, Bands: 6.0

    Submit a copy of the IELTS Test Form Report via email after you have submitted your application to [email protected] for verification.

    Test: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or TOEFL at Home (online)

    Minimum score: Overall: 90, Bands: 20

    Request the results be sent to Dalhousie University from the tester directly.
