Transcultural Humanities: Media, Texts, Languages in a Globalized World

    About

Accreditation: Exceptional approval has been granted.

The Transcultural Humanities challenge us to think critically about our positions and perspectives in a constantly changing, ever-enlarging global society, even as they reach back through centuries and millennia to draw on the very foundations that define our humanity. Such cultural foundations include languages, various art forms (literary, musical, pictorial, sculptural etc.) as well as media old and new.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

You should have a keen interest in your own as well as other cultures and language as well as a fundamental concern for the human society as such and its development. If you are prepared to read extensively, are not frightened of numbers (for e. g. empirical data collection), are inquisitive and open to anything new and different, you will be well equipped for this study programme. Formal requirements are the general qualification for university entrance.

    English Program Requirements

  • Language certificate for English language (Level B2 / Common European Framework for Reference for Languages): We accept English tests covering all four academic skills (reading, listening, writing, and speaking):
    • IELTS (academic) minimum 6.0, including at least 6.0 in section “writing”
    • TOEFL iBt with 75 points minimum
    • We do not accept TOEIC
The language certificate must not be older than two years and the original certificate must be sent directly from the testing center to the European Studies programme in Düsseldorf. (TOEFL-Code: 3423)
No language test is required for native English speakers.
  • Career

The programme offers a broad, interdisciplinary repertoire of qualifications and competencies necessary for a successful business career in our contemporary globalized business world. Among these are communication and cooperation competencies, foreign language skills in at least two languages apart from the mother tongue, knowledge organisation and research skills, abilities in diverse empirical methods, self-organisation as well as the ability to work in a team. These key skills and capabilities open career possibilities in e.g. political foundations, art/cultural management, in marketing and human resource departments of multinational businesses or, of course, the classical 'humanities' careers in journalism, media and education.
