    About

Translation & Translation Studies is an interdisciplinary, cross-college certificate that draws from curricular offerings in various departments such as English, Romance & Arabic Languages & Literatures (RALL), German, Asian, and Judaic Studies. Some classes are also be dual-numbered in order to allow upper-level undergraduate students to enroll. Rather than being targeted at specific languages, the curriculum will allow students from various programs and linguistic backgrounds to share ideas and discuss translation issues. This certificate is a professionalizing complement to existing Master's and doctoral programs.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

For our graduate programs, we welcome applications from students who hold a bachelor's degree (or higher) from a college or university accredited by a regional or general accrediting agency, and have at least a B average in undergraduate course work (or otherwise give evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program).

    Career

There is a steadily growing demand for translators. Careers are available in public and private sectors, including the medical field. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor: "Employment of interpreters and translators is projected to grow 19 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. Globalization and large increases in the number of non-English-speaking people in the United States will drive employment growth. Job prospects should be best for those who have professional certification."

Additionally, the Cincinnati metropolitan area is experiencing growth in Spanish- and French-speaking communities. More businesses, including hospitals, public schools, and manufacturers, are in a need of French or Spanish to English competent translators to ensure the services they offer are more inclusive.
