    About

    Learn the foundations of psychology - the study of the human mind and behaviour - which is useful for a range of careers. You can choose the general psychology pathway or specialise in sport and exercise psychology.

    An introduction to psychology - the study of the human mind and behaviour

    If you've always been interested in psychology, or if you think psychological concepts and skills would be useful in your work or as a means of understanding your own motivations and behaviours, this online University Certificate in Psychology (UCP) course is for you.

    You will be introduced to the fundamental theoretical issues in psychology and can tailor your module choice to your area of interest, career focus or personal preferences, choosing from: cognitive, developmental, sport, exercise, social or biological psychology and also psychology traditions and skills and more. This course will introduce you to research methods in psychology, helping you to develop, and gain an overview of the skills you'll need to progress in a psychology career including, research study design, data collection methods, online research methods and an awareness of ethical issues. Research skills are also transferable and you may find them useful in your current work setting or for any other future education.

    Studying the online University Certificate in Psychology (UCP) course will provide you with 60 credits for entry onto the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology. You will need to study the University Certificate in Psychology pathway in order to gain credits from the relevant modules in order to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Psychology programme.

    • Students with an overall score of 60% would usually be eligible for the International Foundation Year
    • UKVI IELTS 4.5 with a minimum of 4.0 in all components (CEFR B1) is also required
    • If you are studying and completing any internationally recognised qualification such as A-levels; International Baccalaureate (IB) or the American Curricula from the International Schools within Jordan, then you can begin from the first year of a Bachelors degree. Please see individual course pages for specific entry requirements
    • If you have completed a recognised international foundation programme with good grades
    • Advanced entry to year 2 or 3 may be possible. You will need to supply detailed information including courses taken, grades achieved, syllabus and a grading guide

    Career

    Studying this course provides you with your first step into a career within psychology and a gateway to our BPS accredited online BSc (Hons) Psychology*. This course also provides you with 60 credits in psychology which can help you gain entry to our BPS accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology course.

    It is also a useful short course for those wishing to investigate, or take the first steps, towards a career in Psychology without committing to an extensive period of study.

    Studying a psychology course can also equip you with a breadth of knowledge and range of transferable skills that enables you to progress into a wide range of areas such as: human resources; management; police and emergency services; social services; education; counselling; health and social care as well as careers in business and other similar professions. Students have also previously taken our University Certificate in Psychology as continuing professional developmental when working in educational and healthcare settings.

    How to Apply

    Before you begin your application make sure you have:

    • Your qualification details including grades and dates taken. You will have the opportunity to upload scanned copies of your qualification certificates/transcripts in the application. If you have no formal qualifications, you can also state this in your application
    • A scanned copy of your passport or other official photographic ID e.g. photo driving licence. This will help us verify your application to study with us. If you do not have any photo ID, we will accept a scanned copy of your birth certificate. International applicants can only provide a copy of their passport for visa assessment purposes
    • Your work experience (optional). You can upload a CV into your application or provide the company names and addresses of up to three of your employers
    • A personal statement showing your interest for the course/subject. This is a mandatory requirement and you will be able to upload it into your application. You may want to include your reasons for applying for the course, your experience in the field, how you feel you would benefit from studying and relevant information about your previous studies. You could also tell us about your non-academic experiences such as hobbies, interests, participation in any clubs, societies or voluntary work
    • A relevant reference for the course you have applied for. The reference should be in written format and supplied on company-headed paper, signed and dated from either a manager, supervisor, tutor or teacher
    • If you need to supply two references, this usually means you need to provide one academic reference from any recent study and one employer reference
