    Vascular Ultrasound

    About

Bachelor of Science in Vascular Ultrasound

For a list of prerequisite courses, please see the Admissions & Deadlines tab.

Vascular sonographers play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with blood vessel disorders using ultrasound.

The vascular sonographer develops skills in communication, physical and intellectual scanning skills with ultrasound, skills in the analysis of images/data, and reporting the findings of the ultrasound exam to the interpreting physician. Using ultrasonic waves the vascular sonographer is able to see the blood vessels on the images in black and white and flow can be seen in color. Velocity changes in flow are obtained and measured. Vascular sonographers are finding and documenting pathology such as plaque, aneurysms, and blood clots in veins as well as other vascular pathology.

This two-year (20 month) vascular ultrasound program enables you to earn a bachelor's degree and become eligible to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers certification exam to earn the RVT credential.

Your first year of vascular ultrasound study consists of classroom learning, student laboratory work and observing patient examinations at RUSH. During your second year, you will perform vascular examinations on a diverse population of patients under the direction of credentialed vascular sonographers at two or more vascular laboratories.

RUSH University utilizes the teacher-practitioner model. Your teachers in the classroom, lab and clinic are experienced practitioners in their fields of study.
