Established in 1968, University of Silesia in Katowice is a public university located in Katowice, Poland. The university is accredited to offer 70 full-time and part-time programmes, including unique programmes such as the following: Biophysics, Econophysics, Geophysics, and Medical Physics. The programmes offer a total of over 240 specialisations, including Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Data Analyst, Geophysics, Nanophysics and Mesoscopic Materials, Geoecology, and Geoecotourism. The University of Silesia regularly upgrades its didactic offer by launching new programmes which reflect the needs of the labour market. When planning new programmes it also takes into account guidelines concerning programmes which are regarded as being of special value to the economy, including those which are granted the status of specialties ordered by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. As a result, the university’s offer includes more and more engineering degree programmes. The University has almost 30,000 intramural and extramural students at the BA, MA, postgraduate and Ph.D. level students following 70 undergraduate and postgraduate programs subdivided into over 240 specializations. All courses are recognized by the ECTS, which facilitates international student exchange. The University of Silesia also offers numerous Doctoral School’s programmes in the fields of: humanities, theology and art; exact and natural sciences as well as engineering and technical sciences; social sciences which allow students to deepen their knowledge of various disciplines and provide them with opportunities to conduct interesting and innovative research projects. The University provides also International Environmental Doctoral School (IEDS) associated with the Centre for Polar Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice.
