About
- Contemporary substance use policy and legislation
- Psychological trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the principles of trauma-informed care in relation to working with people with substance use issues
- The importance and influence of cultures and practices on the experiences and outcomes of people with substance use issues and their families and carers
- Assessment methods and interventions including Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABIs) and an introduction to Motivational Interviewing
- Strategies for addressing professional, ethical and legal challenges relating to addiction and substance use
Learning Methods
Most of the module is delivered online viaCampusMoodle.
There are 3 study days which, pre-Covid, required attendance in person for 8 hours per day. During Covid restrictions we have adapted this to 5face-to-face online study days, which last for 4 hours per day.
Independent Study
There is an expectation that you will engage in around 8 hours of independent study per week across the module.
Staff delivering on this course
Staff delivering this module have expertise in the addiction and substance use field. Staff bring current practice experience from a variety of backgrounds including nursing, police and third sector.
Assessment
You are expected to produce a 3000 word written assignment.
