Adult-Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

UC's Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program prepares registered nurses to provide advanced care for adolescents, older adults and the frail elderly with acute, short-term illness; exacerbated chronic illness; or terminal disease.

Our Adult-Gero Acute Care program features flexible, online coursework and on-campus labs – held once a week for two semesters – that provide essential skills training not replicable in an online format. This ensures our students obtain expert proficiency in the field to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.

For our graduate programs, we welcome applications from students who hold a bachelor's degree (or higher) from a college or university accredited by a regional or general accrediting agency, and have at least a B average in undergraduate course work (or otherwise give evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program).

Graduates of this specialty meet educational requirements to take exams for national certification. Adult-Gero Acute Care NPs provide services ranging from disease prevention to critical care to stabilize a patient's condition, prevent complications, restore health or offer palliative care. They also coordinate comprehensive care in and across health care settings to ensure patients' needs are met during care transitions. Many Adult-Gero Acute Care NPs work in hospitals, ambulatory care facilities or short-term stay settings.
