Foundation Year
The introductory foundation year is designed to provide a broad introduction to engineering andbuild your understanding of engineering situations and solving problems.
With a focus on your progression, the foundation year also introduces core skills in communicationand teamwork that you will needto succeed at an advanced study level.
Once you successfullycomplete and passthe foundation year, you will progress on to our full BEng (Hons) Aeronautical Engineeringdegree.
BEng (Hons) Degree
The BEng (Hons) Aeronautical Engineeringdegree is designed to equip you with technical and transferable skills, and a commitment tothe highest professional standards expected by society and by industry.
For a further three years of study - or four if you choose an industry placement year, you willstudy a suite of modules designed to embed theoretical knowledge, build career-focused skillsandhelp you become a world-class engineer:
- In year one, you will build a strong foundation of knowledge in aeronauticalengineering, exploring topics including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, electrical systems and aviation business enterprise
- As you progress to year two, you willexpand your subject knowledge and explore navigation systems, aerodynamics, flight systems and aircraft structures. You will also have the opportunity tocomplete a flight test course using the Cranfield Universitys National Flying Laboratory Centre aircraft. During the flight, the aircraft will conduct specific manoeuvres, gathering flight datafor you to analyse
- In your final year, you willstudymore advanced modules in areas such as finite element analysis and industrial management. You willalso demonstrate the knowledge you have gainedby completingyour final year project
Learning Experience
Collaboration is core to our values, so we strive to embed this as a learning objective throughout your studies. You will experience group projects that will buildyour confidence and capabilities in team working,problem-solving and communication- all desirable skills for real-world engineering careers.
You will also have the opportunity to gather real-time flight data with practical teaching atCranfield Universitys National Flying Laboratory Centre aircraft. During the flight, the aircraft will conduct specific manoeuvres during which flight data is gathered for you to analyse.
The course team has long-standing connections with the aviation industry, bothin the North West and beyond. You will benefit stimulating range of external guest lecturers, project and placement opportunities, and engagement with professional networks.
The course is designed to meet the requirements of the Engineering Council's Accreditation of Higher Education Programmes (AHEP).
Industry Placement
On this course, you will have the option to take an industryplacement year between years two and three. Although you will be responsible for securing your placement, our tutors will support you in finding a role, and monitor your progress throughout.
Industry placements are an excellent way to enhance your CV, gain hands-on work experience and build industry connections. We often find that placement students achieve higher final year grades.
