About
The Certificate in Analytical Methods Development program provides the knowledge of techniques of spectroscopic transitions and their applications in structural elucidations and quantitative analysis. Topics include ultraviolet/visible, infrared, Raman and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic and flame emission spectroscopy, chemiluminescence, fluorescence, phosphorescence, light scattering, and refractometry.
Coursework from the certificate program may be applied toward a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry degree, provided a grade “B†or higher was earned in that particular course. Admission to a masters program is not guaranteed upon completion of the certificate program

Requirements
Entry Requirements
Admission to a graduate certificate program is limited to students who qualify as non-degree graduate students who hold a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 2.5/4.0 or higher.
Academic transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and the application fee all must be submitted. A professional statement is strongly encouraged.
A GRE score is not required.
English Program Requirements
International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:
- Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
- Graduates of U.S. high schools
- Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.
CONDITIONAL ADMISSION
If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
