    About

    The first academic year is dedicated to Special Needs Education content as the first subject. Courses in the second subject Applied Linguistics are taken in addition from the second academic year onwards. The regular course sequence involves embarking on the subject in the 3rd semester via module S1 Introduction to Linguistics, which is devoted to the topics of phonetics/phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. The knowledge acquired in module S1 constitutes the basis for module S2 Grammar, which is taken in the 4th semester. The combination module Language Acquisition (K SE) can be selected from the 5th semester. This module builds on previous modules, combining content from areas S6 Language Acquisition and Psychology of Language with content from topic S7 Theory and Practice of German as a Foreign and Second Language, and as the Language of Education. Within module K SE, students can freely select two courses from the aforementioned thematic areas, depending on their interests and specialisations. Alternatively, students may take a seminar on the Introduction to Language Teaching.     Admission Requirements

    The Bachelor’s degree programme in special needs education generally is admission restricted.

    As second subject some subjects in the Bachelor’s degree programme in special needs education are restricted (Applied Linguistics (non-school-based), German Studies (school subject: German), History, Arts, Music, Social Studies and Science ("Sachkunde") and Sports (school subject: Physical Education) and others are admission-free (Protestant Theology (school subject: Protestant Religious Education), Catholic Theology (school subject: Catholic Religious Education) and Mathematics).

    Application Deadlines

    First-year students (Application for the first semester is only possible for the winter semester)
    • Applicants from Germany and other EU countries: June 1st July 15th of the year
    • Applicants from outside the European Union: April 15th May 31st of the year (application via uni-assist)
    Students resuming their studies and transfer students (application in a higher semester)
    • Everyone: June 1st July 15th of the year for the winter semester
    • Everyone: December 1st January 15th of the year for the summer semester

    The aim of taking the Bachelors degree programme in Special Needs Education with Applied Linguistics as the second subject is to work in the area of speech therapy. With this Bachelors degree, graduates may apply for partial licensing for the following disorders:

    • Developmental disorders and rhinolalia
    • Speech disorders in the case of severe hearing impairment and cochlear implant care

    After completing the Bachelors programme, graduates may enter the job market directly or go on to take the Masters degree programme in Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation Sciences.

    • The aim of taking the Bachelors degree programme in Special Needs Education with Applied Linguistics as the second subject is to work in the area of speech therapy. With this Bachelors degree

    How to Apply

    You can use our online application portal to enrol any time between 1 June and 30 September. To be able to do this, you will need a qualification for admission to higher education. At the end of the online application, you will automatically be forwarded to a cover letter (the so-called application for enrollment). Sign this application for enrollment (handwritten or digital) and put it together with the required documents into one PDF document, which you can then upload using the upload link provided. The required documents include your qualification for admission to higher education (e.g. Abitur) and any other supporting documents such as practical training certificates or evidence of language proficiency. We also need proof of your health insurance and evidence that you have paid the semester fee. At the end of the online application, all required documents are listed and must be uploaded as a scan of the original documents by September 30th, 11:59 p.m. Please do not forget to upload your photo for the LeibnizCard . You can find information on this in the application for enrollment at the end of the online application. In September, you will receive your enrolment documents, an invitation to the welcome event for new students and information about any preparatory courses that may be offered. Please note that some degree programmes offer preparatory courses well before term starts.
