Qualified students in the architecture program may consider a course of study that will give them advanced placement in the Master of Landscape Architecture degree program. Completing this path allows Bachelor of Architecture graduates to gain advanced standing in the graduate landscape architecture program, satisfying degree requirements in one year rather than three. This path only applies to the degree program offered at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. For more information, see the Graduate Catalog.
Requirements for architecture students pursuing this degree path:
- The student must meet with directors from both the architecture and the landscape architecture programs during their fourth year, or earlier.
- The student must have an earned minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
- The student must complete the following requirements before entering the Master of Landscape Architecture program with advanced placement.
- ARCH 474 - Advanced Architectural Design: Landscape Architecture I
- ARCH 475 - Advanced Architectural Design: Landscape Architecture II
- GEOL 590 - Urban Ecology
- LAR 421 - Design Communication I
- LAR 422 - Design Communication II
- LAR 432 - Plants in the Landscape I
- LAR 487 - Contemporary Landscape Architecture
- LAR 534 – Operative Strategies
The student must also follow the normal procedure and deadline for admission to the Graduate School and to the Master of Landscape Architecture program in the College of Architecture and Design.
