    Associate Degree of Engineering

    About

    Overview

Study the Associate Degree of Engineering and develop the skills and qualifications needed to become an engineering associate. Engineering associates combine a sound engineering understanding with modern technology to apply and adapt sustainable engineering practices for communities, society and the environment in general. Engineering associates often work to support professional engineers or engineering technologists in a team environment.

The Associate Degree of Engineering allows you to develop the skills required to become an engineering associate and gain knowledge of engineering principles relevant to the testing, inspection, drawing, adaptation, commissioning, management or operation of on-site equipment, plant and systems. There is the opportunity to tailor your studies to your areas of interest by selecting from majors in civil, electrical, mechanical or mining engineering or engineering geology. The Associate Degree of Engineering course is based on the project-based learning philosophy which offers the opportunity to learn in context. This approach is designed to produce work-ready graduates with industry-relevant skills.

The engineering technology degree will allow people to be specialists in the use of technology within an engineering organization.

People who are highly trained in using software and highly trained in simulating and modelling certain circumstances.

Someone who studies Bachelor of Engineering technology would be somebody who is interested in perhaps being a designer who is the go-to person in that organisation.

Maybe it's intersection design, mechanical system design, refrigeration system design, or stormwater modelling.

Whatever it might be, that will be the one that is up to date with the latest technology in terms of the software, the standards, the guidelines and how to operate those software applications to achieve an outcome that's of value to that organisation.

Engineering Technology Bachelor has slightly different configuration where the three main majors are civil engineering and mechanical, but each of those have two plugins, so you can choose between a couple of options.

In Civil, it's a choice between transport or structural engineering. In electrical, it's control systems or power engineering, and in mechanical it's either energy or design.

So that offers up, you know, six choices for students so that they can become quite specialist in their field.

And the reason that we've done it this way is because of the way that the batch new engineering technology works.

It's intended to produce graduates who are specialists in the technology within that field.

Because we offer engineering right throughout the five campuses in Queensland Cairns down to Bundaberg and also by distance, we have an extensive network of industry partners.

A lot of those include the local councils, so we've got a lot of students who have gone to work at the local councils, and there are also many different engineering organisations.

That have supported the program from Cairns down to Bundaberg: Aurizon, Downer, GHD, Empire, the list goes on and on.

We have so many engineering firms who really support our students by offering up Co-op placements and other professional work placements.

And then obviously taking them on as cadets, if they haven't graduated or as graduates when they have.

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology includes some engineering professional practice of nine weeks so that every student must show that they have spent that period of time working under a professional engineer.

It is beneficial for the students because it does help them not only to further their learning, but also to see where they might want to work as a practicing engineer when they graduate.

Depending on the major that selected you will attend either three or four residential schools throughout the Bachelor engineering technology.

The residential schools which are often conducted in laboratories are some of the best parts of the course because you actually get your hands dirty and to play with some engineering equipment.

So they're a really important part of the course for developing that well rounded graduate.

CQUniversity is one of the country’s leading universities for producing engineering graduates.

And I mean that in terms of the number of students who graduate and obtain full time, we’re well and truly above the national average on that statistic.

Engineering is a very rewarding career.

You will become a professional, or at least as a paraprofessional and someone that is respected and admired in the community. And therefore it is a long road but worth it in the end.

    Career Opportunities

As an Associate Degree of Engineering graduate, you will enjoy various challenging career options across multiple industries and government sectors. As an engineering associate, you will apply your knowledge of engineering principles to the testing, inspection, adaptation, commissioning, management or operation of on-site equipment, plant and systems. You may prepare drawings or specifications for others to use in manufacturing or construction. Engineering associates, having specialised in civil, mechanical or electrical disciplines, find employment in national and international public and private industry sectors, including the energy, transportation, manufacturing, process, construction, mining and education industries.
