    This course is designed for aspiring interior architects seeking to enhance their creative and technical skills in shaping interior spaces. Choose this course to gain a competitive edge in the interior design industry, focusing on experiential design and innovative practices.

    What sets this course apart is its emphasis on digital technologies and the global context of design, preparing you for specialised areas such as commercial or residential design. You'll also have the opportunity to progress to postgraduate research, including a PhD.

    You will acquire critical thinking, spatial design, and advanced representation skills. The course culminates in a self-directed project, showcasing your ability to tackle complex design briefs and produce professional solutions.

    Learning occurs through project-based activities, fostering a blend of creativity and analytical thinking. You'll engage with cutting-edge technologies and develop a research-informed design approach, guided by industry professionals.

    Upon completion, you'll be well-equipped for careers in various sectors, including commercial and residential design, adaptive re-use, and spatial branding, among others.

    The course enhances employability through the development of a portfolio. The course allows students to develop skills in a specialised area, such as performative space, commercial interiors or residential interior design. Uniquely, digital technologies of representation, fabrication, internationalisation and design practice are emphasised.

    The degree offers students a path from undergraduate through to postgraduate coursework and research study, including a PhD. Often the first step towards a research degree, an honours degree allows students to undertake self-determined, critical research and apply this to a specific project. Students prove their ability to develop and respond to a complex design brief, and develop innovative, holistic and professional design solutions.

    This course uses project-based learning to allow students to develop a focused portfolio. Through their study, students develop spatial intelligence and excellence in design practice. The program fosters a creative and explorative attitude towards the design process, underpinned by reflective and critical engagement. Students generate a cohesive design approach where research and practice are consolidated in design outcomes.

    Admission requirements

    Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline at an appropriate level.

    UTS Students – Criteria for a guaranteed offer

    Applicants with a UTS Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture who have completed the course within the last 3 years and attained an overall minimum WAM of 70 or above are guaranteed entry. International students will need to submit an admission application. UTS domestic students are not required to submit an application as they will receive an email with the offer and instructions on how to accept it.

    UTS students: course completed within the last three years

    Applicants with a UTS Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture who have completed the course within the last three years and attained an overall minimum WAM between 65 and 69.99 (inclusive) must provide the following additional material in order to be considered for a place in the Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Interior Architecture:

    • a digital portfolio of 10 x A4 landscape PDFs that display digital files, scans and/or photographs of original design work done by the applicant (max. size 5MB)
    • a 200–300 word statement addressing the applicant's reasons for undertaking honours level study in design at UTS and the specific learning that they are seeking given their intended career direction on completion of the degree
    • a one-page CV in PDF format that clearly articulates the applicant's design or related experience.

    UTS students: course completed four or more years ago

    Applicants with a UTS Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture or UTS equivalent who have completed the course four or more years ago and have demonstrated relevant work experience within the interior spatial design or interior architecture industry must provide the following additional material in order to be considered for a place in the Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Interior Architecture:

    • a digital portfolio of 10 x A4 landscape PDFs that display digital files, scans and/or photographs of original design work done by the applicant (max. size 5MB)
    • a 200–300 word statement addressing the applicant's reasons for undertaking honours level study in design at UTS and the specific learning that they are seeking given their intended career direction on completion of the degree
    • a one-page CV in PDF format that clearly articulates the applicant's design or related experience, accompanied by supporting reference(s) from related industry employer(s)
    • a copy of their academic transcript.

    Non-UTS applicants

    Applicants with a degree which is equivalent to the UTS Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture and who have attained an overall minimum WAM of 65 or above must provide the following additional material in order to be considered for a place in the Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Interior Architecture:

    • a digital portfolio of 10 x A4 landscape PDFs that display digital files, scans and/or photographs of original design work done by the applicant (max. size 5MB)
    • a 200–300 word statement addressing the applicant's reasons for undertaking honours level study in design at UTS and the specific learning that they are seeking given their intended career direction on completion of the degree
    • a one-page CV in PDF format that clearly articulates the applicant's design or related experience.
    • a verified copy of the candidate's previous academic transcript.

    Students must refer to the inherent requirements for all degrees offered by Design and Architecture in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building.

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

    Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

    International students

    International applicants must also attend an interview (via Skype) with the program director. Digital copies of both the academic transcripts and portfolio must be sent to the program director prior to the interview.

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

    International applicants must also attend an interview (via Skype) with the program director. Digital copies of both the academic transcripts and portfolio must be sent to the program director prior to the interview.
