    Our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Diploma of Professional Practice (Co-op Engineering) feature 48 weeks of paid work placement and project-based learning, allowing you to develop the professional skills required to work as an Engineer and graduate with one year of industry experience.

    Your education and training will focus on developing skills that are highly desired by employers, such as effective teamwork and problem-solving.

    This course's work experience component allows you to put your learning into practice while experiencing different workplace cultures. You have the opportunity to apply for work-integrated learning overseas to enhance your global learning experience.

    The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Diploma of Professional Practice (CC32) has a strong focus on practical learning experiences and includes 48 weeks of paid industry experience. This provides you with vast opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge you have gained from your studies to authentic scenarios, establish a network of future employers and enhance your employment prospects.

    Real-world opportunities

    The first year of your studies prepares you for a range of practical experiences. You will gain a solid foundation of engineering knowledge and develop your skills in problem-solving, teamwork and professional practice together with learning foundation technical content. In the second term of your first year, you will undertake an authentic industry project and be exposed to projects from different engineering disciplines. This gives you a good grounding and understanding as you decide on the engineering discipline you wish to pursue.

    Your second year equips you with in-depth discipline-specific knowledge and skills, and you will choose the engineering discipline you wish to focus your studies on. You will be exposed to engineering projects that give you opportunities to apply the theoretical knowledge you have gained to deliver tangible engineering outcomes.

    At the beginning of your third year of study, you will complete a 24-week paid industry placement where you work with an industry partner as a student engineer. Midway through your fourth year, you embark on your second 24-week paid industry placement, and you have the option to choose a different industry or location from your first placement. This versatility allows you to widen your experience and enhances your knowledge of engineering and career opportunities.  

    Over the four and a half years of study, you spend 48 weeks in work placement. This allows you to earn while you learn, explore engineering in practice, apply your discipline knowledge and develop an industry network. In your final term of study, you will complete a major individual project that demonstrates your ability to work as a professional engineer.

    The course has abundant real-world opportunities in conjunction with industry that prepares you for a career as a professional engineer.

    Entry Requirements

    English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent; General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent

    English Language Proficiency Requirements:

    If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or the United States of America you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University. Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion within the last 10 years of:

    • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or
    • A completed Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma level qualification; or
    • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years full-time with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

    Completed in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or the United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

    If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.5, with a minimum 6.0 in each subset; or
    • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components; or
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 62 with no sub-score less than 54; or
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT – 79 or better overall and no score less than 21

    English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.


    The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Diploma of Professional Practice (Co-op Engineering) is your gateway into the engineering industry. Upon completion, you will be qualified to work as a Professional Engineer in the civil, civil with humanitarian, electrical, mechanical, mechatronic engineering or resources systems fields depending on your chosen major.
