    About

Where do mechanical engineers find jobs? Everywhere.

We train engineers capable of solving the world’s greatest challenges. This degree will prepare you to help address the world’s future energy needs by taking biomass, wind and tidal power solutions to the next level. Your core courses will cover robotics, new advanced materials, energy generation and transmission, and computer control of physical systems.

Mechanical engineers are valued for their generalist knowledge across different engineering disciplines. They are often employed in discipline-agnostic roles as project managers, designers or advisors.

What is mechanical engineering? Mechanical engineers design, manufacture and optimise specialist machines and processes. Mechanical Engineering is at the heart of many aeronautical, motorsport and manufacturing teams. You could learn to design self-driving farm machinery for ultra-efficient food production. Or you might tackle health issues by building revolutionary biomechanical solutions for people with disabilities.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

Admission to our undergraduate degree programs usually requires successful completion of a senior secondary school qualification similar to the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the highest educational award in New South Wales schools.

    English Program Requirements

Applicants who do not speak English as a first language must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. Further information regarding English language proficiency requirements can be found at the English Language Proficiency for Admission Policy.

In the application portal, you can enter the program you wish to study and upload relevant documents needed as part of your application. It is recommended you submit your application a minimum of 12 weeks before your intended semester of trimester start date.

    Career

Mechanical engineers work in a wide range of industries. Roles are flexible and diverse. You may prefer hands-on fieldwork or design and development. Or you might prefer a leadership role managing people and projects.

Almost all industries need mechanical engineers. They can work in medical, transport, aerospace, electronics, mining, renewable energy, robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing industries.
