    This course is designed for aspiring registered nurses seeking a dual qualification that enriches their professional education with language and cultural studies, broadening career prospects both in Australia and internationally. It offers a blend of theoretical and clinical nursing education, equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and values to deliver compassionate, safe, and effective care. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of nursing practice, critical thinking abilities, and cultural safety.

    Learning is facilitated through a combination of theoretical and hands on learning, delivered by a team of experienced educators and practicing registered nurses. Our state-of-the-art simulation facilities and varied clinical placements ensure practical proficiency. The curriculum includes a selection of third-year electives, allowing exploration of specialties such as critical care, paediatric, perioperative and mental health nursing.

We use a blend of e-learning and face-to-face approaches to engage, inspire and challenge students and our clinical simulation facilities and the diverse clinical placements experiences provided ensure that students develop high level clinical and critical thinking skills. A wide choice of elective third year subjects allows students to sample different nursing specialties including emergency nursing, theatre, paediatrics, community and primary healthcare, aged care and mental health.

That’s why we have embedded this program into every undergraduate degree. All you need to do is choose the Elective that inspires you the most. Transdisciplinary Electives integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, allowing you to approach complex problems from a range of perspectives. By combining methods and insights from various disciplines, transdisciplinary learning often leads to breakthrough ideas and creative innovations that may not be possible within the confines of a single discipline. If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe. In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates. * Excludes students concurrently enrolled in the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation.

    Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

    Admission to the combined degree is on merit according to the admissions policy for the Bachelor of Nursing (C10122).

    There is a range of entry levels to the various language and culture programs. Students are admitted to the international studies program with no guarantee of entry to a specific major, although every effort is made to meet students' preferences.

    The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 7.0 overall with a minimum score of 7.0 in each subset; or TOEFL: iBT: 94 overall, reading 24, listening 24, speaking 23, writing 27; or PTE: 65-72 overall with a minimum score of 65 in each subset; or OET: minimum score of B in each of the 4 components (listening, reading, writing and speaking).

    Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

    International students

    Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

    • UTS Bachelor of Nursing (BN) prepares you for the exciting and challenging role of the Registered Nurse. This course offers you a comprehensive range of theoretical and clinical nursing subjects that together provide the knowledge, skills and professional values graduates require to provide safe, effective and compassionate nursing care. You will be well prepared for clinical practice and highly sought after for employment in a wide range of healthcare settings across Australia and internationally.

      The course is three years full-time (or equivalent part-time), consisting of both theoretical and practical components. Clinical learning is a key element of the course and clinical placements in health care settings begin in the first session of your first year and will continue every session thereafter. Simulation-based learning opportunities are integral to the course and are designed to assist you in preparing for clinical placements and your future role as a Registered Nurse. In your final year of study you can choose a specialty elective, for example paediatrics, critical care, peri operative, or mental health nursing to align your education with future career aspirations.

      The Bachelor of International Studies (BIS) is designed to build your intercultural communication skills and language proficiency and equips you to become a global citizen who can operate successfully in diverse contexts, both in Australia and internationally. In the fourth year of the combined degree, you will spend an academic year studying in the local language at a university in the country of your chosen major. Together, the Bachelor of Nursing Bachelor of International Studies combines preparation for the role of Registered Nurse with immersion in another language and culture, enhancing your professional, educational and career options.

    • If you perform highly in your Year 12 subjects, your selection rank may be boosted by the Year 12 subject scheme.

      The scheme, which is automatically applied, awards selection rank adjustments to your application based on your marks in subjects that are relevant to the courses you have applied to.

    • Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.
