    About

Become an engineer capable of solving the world’s greatest challenges

One of the biggest challenges humankind faces is the transition to a renewable energy economy. The success of this evolution depends on the next generation's creative solutions. Our renewable energy engineers will have the specialised skills to make a difference.

What is renewable energy engineering? Renewable energy engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering field dedicated to developing, designing, and operating systems and processes that harness energy from sustainable sources. These include solar, wind, water, geothermal and biomass.

    Course overview

Become job-ready through a combination of professional practical and elective pathway courses. Build critical technical skills in a range of technologies for renewable energy capture, conversion, storage, delivery and management including:

    • solar and wind
    • geothermal, hydro, ocean and hybrid systems
    • power electronics and renewable energy systems
    • bioenergy
    • energy storage systems

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

Admission to our undergraduate degree programs usually requires successful completion of a senior secondary school qualification similar to the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the highest educational award in New South Wales schools.

    English Program Requirements

Applicants who do not speak English as a first language must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. Further information regarding English language proficiency requirements can be found at the English Language Proficiency for Admission Policy.

In the application portal, you can enter the program you wish to study and upload relevant documents needed as part of your application. It is recommended you submit your application a minimum of 12 weeks before your intended semester of trimester start date.

    Career

To meet the global commitment to tackling climate change, highly qualified engineers are required. Engineers with specialties in renewable energy engineering will be in high demand.

In addition, there are community concerns about energy security and affordability. This has driven government and organisations to hire highly trained engineers with expertise in the multidisciplinary field of renewable energy. These engineers evaluate, design, operate and optimise renewable energy systems for power generation.

    Professional outcomes:

    • renewable energy engineer
    • renewable energy systems designer
    • energy management consultant
    • energy accounting/auditing
    • energy policy development officer
    • renewable energy innovation
