    About this course

    Whether you'd like to join the forefront of agricultural research or improve food security to make the planet a better place, a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Agriculture) will give you highly sought-after skills for a huge range of careers.

    The Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Agriculture) bring you into the multidisciplinary world of agriculture, as you examine how living systems interact with their economic and social dimensions. In this degree, you'll gain knowledge in four key areas: soil science and hydrology; plant production; animal production; and agribusiness.

    You'll graduate armed with the skills to embark on a huge range of careers from scientific research, managing production systems, through to agricultural policymaking and agribusiness.

    Majors
    You will complete the Agriculture program, which includes one of the below agriculture majors, as part of this stream:

    • Animal Production
    • Plant Production
    • Soil Science and Hydrology

    You will also take a second major from the agriculture majors, the shared pool of majors, or select a major offered by our academic schools:

    • School of Chemistry
    • School of Geosciences (including Geography and Geology and Geophysics)
    • School of History and Philosophy of Science
    • School of Life and Environmental Science (including Agriculture, Animal Science, Biology, Ecology, Environment and Food Science)
    • School of Mathematics and Statistics (including Data Science)
    • School of Physics
    • School of Psychology
    • School of Veterinary Science

    In the final year of your degree, you have two options, Advanced Coursework OR Honours:

    • Advanced Coursework: Enhance your leadership, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and increase your employment prospects. You will undertake challenging coursework and a substantial real-world project individually or in collaboration with other students.
    • Honours: Develop deep analytical skills and prepare yourself for further research opportunities, such as pursuing a PhD. You will undertake a supervised but independent research project as well as connected discipline-based and/or research-focused coursework. Admission to the honours pathway is subject to meeting the specified WAM and additional entry requirements. Check with your faculty for details.

    Entry Requirements

    Admission to this course is on the basis of the following criteria:

    • a secondary education qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), or approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses.
    • English language requirements where these are not demonstrated by sufficient qualifications taught in English.

    Admission pathways are open to domestic applicants on the basis of equity or other adjustment factors, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. For details, visit admission pathways.

    Prerequisites

    Mathematics Advanced (Band 4) or Mathematics Extension 1 or 2 (Band E3). For details on the prerequisite, and how it applies to you, visit: Mathematics course prerequisites.

    Inherent requirements

    When choosing a course, you should see if it has any inherent requirements (this will be noted on the course page). These usually apply for courses that are preparing you for a career where you will be working closely with people or animals.

    • have completed a recognised tertiary qualification. Details can be found on the specific course page and could include previous study in the same field, or an advertised minimum GPA.

    • a portfolio
    • assumed knowledge
    • relevant professional experience.

    3. Gather your documents

    We require official documents to support your application, including a scanned copy of your passport identification page.

    Other documents you may need include:

    • English language results
    • academic transcripts
    • degree certificates (testamurs)
    • scholarship documentation
    • marriage/change of name certificate.

    If your course requires a supplementary application form, this will be listed on the course page. 

    Documents submitted in a language other than English must be accompanied by a complete English translation made by an accredited translator with a government body or the Registrar of the issuing institution.

    Applicants from the People's Republic of China may be required to provide a China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC) verification of their academic documents.

    If you are applying for a student visa, the University reserves the right to request additional information regarding the government's genuine temporary entrant requirement. This may be requested after your application is submitted, and could include an additional application form seeking clarification about your personal circumstances and/or an interview.
