Overview Students in the Black Studies program at the University of California, Santa Barbara are encouraged to examine the dynamics and intersections of race, class, gender, politics, and economics. The Black Studies curriculum is composed of its own core courses as a well as a variety of elective courses in the humanities and social sciences.Students are encouraged to take advantage of the Education Abroad Program. Several Black Studies majors have combined honors opportunities with EAP to develop research projects while abroad and write honors theses on such topics as the Dalit Panther Movement in India, The Chinese under Apartheid, and NAACP Hate Crime Findings. 1 : The University of California sets slightly different criteria for applicants who are not California residents. If you are an out-of-state applicant, you must meet the same admission requirements as a California resident student. However, there is one important difference: you must earn a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.4 or better in the 15 college-preparatory courses ("a-g" courses) with no grade lower than a C.
