    About

    Build a basic foundation in chemical engineering during the undergraduate portion of this program, and prepare for more advanced chemical engineering work in the fourth year. Gain in-depth knowledge of the newest chemical engineering topics and develop transformative solutions.

    Illinois Techs Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering/Master of Biological Engineering accelerated master's degree program allows students the opportunity to pursue advanced studies in biological engineering while completing both degrees in as few as five years.

    In recognition of the chemical engineering profession becoming more prominently involved in biotechnology and biological engineering, the department has redesigned its undergraduate curriculum to ensure that graduates will possess additional knowledge and skills in biology and biological engineering as predicated by the changing needs of the industry.

    Students will build a basic foundation in chemical engineering during the undergraduate portion of this program, which will prepare them for more advanced biological engineering work in the fourth year.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students applying to the accelerated masters program must have completed at least 60 credit hours with at least one full semester (12 credit hours) of applicable undergraduate study at the university.

    Students must be at least one full semester (12 credit hours) away from undergraduate degree completion in order to apply.

    Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; however, please consult individual departments for specific minimum GPA requirements.

    English Program Requirements

    International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

    • Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
    • Graduates of U.S. high schools
    • Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

    CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

    If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
