    Background to the program and subject area:
    The curriculum provides a broad integrated education that serves as the basis for successful professional career. The curriculum also provides sound basis for continued professional development through informal studies, continuing education, and graduate study in specialized engineering fields.
     
    Vision statements of the program:
    The Department of Civil Engineering will excel in undergraduate and graduate teaching, in research in all sub-areas of civil engineering, and in service to the public. The department will make significant contribution to the economic development of the region and nation

    Offer high quality education to prepare competitive engineers for a successful career, conduct state-of-the-art research to provide service to the university engineering profession, and the public.
     
    Program Aims:
    1.     Have a strong foundation of scientific and technical knowledge and are equipped with problem solving, critical-thinking, and tools and skills necessary to enable them to be successful civil engineers.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students with a high school diploma or its equivalent from outside Jordan can enroll in higher education institutions directly through websites of public and private universities or intermediate community colleges based on their averages. Universities implement the credit hours system, which allows students to choose courses according to their study plan.

    Students wishing to enroll in a master's program must hold a bachelor's degree. Furthermore, students who wish to enroll in doctoral programs must hold a master's degree.

    In addition, students wishing to enroll in postgraduate programs are required to provide a certificate confirming their English proficiency level in a TOEFL or IELTS exam. They could also demonstrate a certain proficiency level in French or German. Lastly, they could take an English language exam held by the higher education institution they apply in.

    In the event that the student fails to prove the required level of English, German or French, or fails the English equivalency exam, they may study a qualifying program in English at the university where they undertake additional six credit hours; he/she must score a minimum grade that varies according to their specialization.

    ​Potential Careers

    After graduation, fresh gradate engineers will have two working areas: the public sector which usually takes the role of projects owner such as ministry of public work and housing and the private sector were they will work in a consulting company or contractor company. Although these areas include designer engineers, consulting companies usually take the role of designing the project and/or supervising the project construction for the project owner. The contractor company mostly execute the project according to the consultant design and instructions.
     
    Engineers within these companies can work as a site engineer or a design engineer. The site engineer spends his/her time at the project site following up the project construction according to plans while the design engineer spends his/her time at the office designing the various project taken by the company or conducting feasibility studies for new projects.
